You leave Kathmandu heading north towards the Sunkoshi gorge, which cuts through the Himalayan range, opening up the way to enter Tibet. Leaving the Sunkoshi gorge, you will climb up to the Tibetan Plateau from where you head west across the vast, starkly and scenic high land plateau. It will be days before you get the first glimpse of Mount Kailash far in the horizon that resembles the sighting of giant pyramids amid the Sahara desert, when you start your trip.
You will meet several pilgrims traveling in caravans or small groups en route to this once in a life time classical trip. In Wesak valley you are likely to encounter hundreds of Tibetan nomads, many of whom will have walked for months to reach their holy destination. When you reach your destination, you will camp by the Lakeside, Manasarovar before heading to Lhasa. On the way you will cross Shigatse, where you will visit Tashilhunpo monastery, the home of Panchen Lamas. Your trip continues further towards Gyantse, turquoise Yamdrok Tso and Lhasa, where you will sight excellent views of the Potala palace, the ancient residence and office of the Dalai Lamas filled with ancient architecture; the much revered Jokhang Temple, Drepung Monastery, Norbulinka, Tibetan Medical Center, among others, depending upon the availability of your time.
After this exciting and enriching visit to Tibet, you will return to Kathmandu by a trans-Himalayan flight from Lhasa. During the flight, you will be amazed to see the majestic mountain range, the Tibetan plateau and the places you visited from a bird's eye point of view.
