Endowed with diverse mountainous terrains full of lush green forests and breathtaking landscapes, Nepal is undoubtedly a Biker's paradise. Whether a novice or an expert, an avid biker can enjoy this nature's gift by biking around the trails close to the city or in some far off lands. As you bike at your own pace, you can enjoy the views of several mountain ranges from vantage points that you pass through. Likewise, you can make your stopovers at the villages and hamlets where charming people will welcome you with a smile and you can enjoy their hospitality as you get a quintessence of their culture and tradition.
Beginners and those with limited time can opt to bike around Kathmandu valley and its vicinity. Kathmandu is quite close to Ganesh Himal, Langtang, Jugal Himal and Rolwaling and you can view an excellent panorama of these and other mountains from the hills surrounding Kathmandu. Likewise, Kathmandu and its vicinity is home to ethnic Newar and Tamang community. Biking around the valley you can enjoy the culture and the hospitality of these ethnic communities along with the natural beauty.
If you can spare a few more days, and have some expertise in biking, you can travel to more exotic destinations like Annapurna area or any other area of Nepal that offer you more adventure. Through an off route ride, you can explore the rims and ridges of Kathmandu and Pokhara valleys that weave in and out of cities or you can bike along the Kodari highway right up to Tibet viewing the charming hills and mountains on the way.
Mountain bikes are easily available for rent by day or for longer durations at various outlets in the tourist hubs of Kathmandu and Pokhara. Accommodation and food are available at most stopovers.
So anyone who wish to do a short sport on mountain bike for a peaceful environment this circuit is an excellent one.
Itineraries:
Day 01: Katmandou - Nagarkot (2100m.) 4/5h of Cycling and O/N in lodge.
Depart on bike to Sankhu (15km) another ancient city of Kathmandu valley inhabited by Newar and walk to Bajrayogini temple 30min. after visit this site we continue to towards to Nagarkot, very reputed site for the panoramic view of chain of Himalayas (Kathmandu valley, Panchkhal and Indrawati). Day 02: Nagarkot - Dhulikhel (1600m.) 4/5h of Cycling and O/N in lodge.
Get up early in the morning to admire the sunrise on the Himalayan range, after breakfast depart for Dhulikhel. We climb up to a pass then continue and the trail goes down to Nala and Dhulikhel. A beautiful view point, that is located on the way to the road of Katmandou Chinese border.
Day 03: Dhulikhel - Panauti (1500m) 3/4h of Cycling and O/N in lodge.
Depart for Namo Buddha while crossing several villages of newars, Tamangs while admiring the landscapes. Namo Buddha is a buddhist site and located a beautiful hill site with monasteries. Descent for Panauti co-habitation of the several ethnic groups Brahminex, Chhetries, Newars and Tamangs,
Day 04: Panauti - Katmandou 4/5h of Cycling and O/N in hotel.
We visit around Panauti, a small town of which the monuments that is part of the world heritage of the UNESCO. French government has participated to restoration it and then depart for Lakhure Bhanjyang (2000m), a view point to the Kathmandu valley then Stiff down to Lubu.
